We are excited to announce that our Distance Learning Programme will be launching in a fourth country… Georgia!
It is exciting to discover our distance learning programme might be relevant to practitioners in another country. I’ve learnt so much from working with Tako to tailor the training content for a new Georgian audience.
Alexia Quin
Tako shares with us below her experience developing the Distance Learning programme and the impact the course could have on music therapy in Georgia:
When Alexia suggested me to participate in remote training, the first reaction was joy, then I realized how big a responsibility it all is.
It’s not just showing professionalism and knowledge, it’s primarily time management, the ability to concentrate and be receptive to newness. Also, family support, which is necessary for the successful implementation of any project.
Although Alexia and I, and Music as Therapy International, have known each other for years and have a pleasant business relationship, it is still gratifying that such an offer took place, because it means that our business relationship and, most importantly, the promotion of music therapy in the country, remains an actual topic for us.
And this is very pleasant for me, because music therapy as a profession is now gaining a foothold with us, in fact we do not have licensed specialists in the country, except for a few who, including me, received their education and degrees abroad. However, Georgia has a great potential to become one of the prominent music therapy destinations. So, I gladly started preparing together with Alexia and Makeda to implement this idea in Georgia.
Studying the material of the Distance Learning Programme convinced me once again that the journey of learning is never over.
Materials on extraordinary video-practical material with the involvement of specialists of different nationalities, are also provided in an understandable language for people of the specialty, and if something doesn’t makes sense at first , it has a definition that makes it clear.
I think one of the most difficult things was the adaptation of the material for the Georgian audience, because there is a language barrier, as well as many nuances that should not escape us during translation. Because the wrong translation of one word can completely change the content and context, therefore a lot of time was devoted to the translation and its verification. We are near the end of both the translation and finalising the course materials therefore we are running on time and do not have any anxiety that something may not arrive.
I think that after this project, our country will have some motivated and trained teachers who will be able to use the elements of music therapy while working and studying with children. We still don’t have such a teaching method in our country, therefore, I think that We will also have new positive discoveries after the completion of the project. Also, we are ready for obstacles, although we hope everything will be fine.
Taking on such a serious project will be a great experience for me as well. Let’s see how I will lead, I believe I will succeed, however, the feeling that “music as therapy international” Alexia, Makeda Jenny are by my side will completely reduce my anxiety and increase my motivation.
When we announced the training and posted the information, there was an incredible response from specialists. I was contacted by about 50 specialists, of which Khogi immediately registered, some of them were school principals and were wondering if it was possible for their teachers to participate in this program. There was a response from my students too, I was very happy about this news. I realized that there is an interest in my country and a desire to be better.
We have big plans ahead and I hope that we will continue our activities with the same open heart as we started.
