Last year, we successfully piloted our Distance Learning Programme in a new country, Jordan. Whilst the 2023 course has been fully underway, we wanted to take a moment to congratulate our 2022 cohort and reflect on the impact of the course.
The seven newly trained caregivers have collectively created opportunities for 1,000 children to access music as part of their care, giving the children the chance to grow in self-confidence, improve their communication skills and positively impact their social skills.
Some students shared with us the impact that they have seen on the children in their care:
[My music sessions] helped the children to feel loved and noticed by me and they never felt ignored and alone.

I felt something special after getting an eye contact after 3 sessions from kids who don’t do it usually. I heard some kids’ voices after some sessions who refused at the beginning to participate I saw their smiles and enjoyment.

A noticeable change occurred in Q’s wish to participate, sing and practice, (do) motor skills without being shy or being bored….I noticed that the two children are enjoying themselves while they are singing or using music instruments, and there is an atmosphere of humour and fun.

I thought the new activities I used went well with the children as they participated in their own ways and they were able to express themselves freely and safely, and that was my goal.

The practical music sessions also proved to have a positive and meaningful impact outside of the sessions:
Q’s mother came and told me that she noticed a change in Q’s behaviour at home and that he became calm and more focused on doing his homework.

We want to say a huge well done to our 2022 cohort of caregivers for their hard work and commitment to the course. We have loved reading their feedback and seeing how the skills the course equipped the students with has benefited the children in their care.
Music has proved again the enormous impact that it can have on children with disabilities and/or learning difficulties. We hope to hear feedback just like this once our 2023 students have completed their course!
Are you in Jordan and interested in using music in the care you provide?
Our aim for creating the Distance Learning Programme is to equip caregivers around the world with a practical guide to use music therapeutically with children who have physical or learning disabilities or social interaction difficulties.
The year-long course comprises of eight monthly theoretical tutorials to help you understand the theory of music therapy through written assignments. This is followed by an Intensive Study Training in which the practical component starts and where participants have the chance to meet in-person and discuss the theory they have learnt.
After the Intensive Study Training, students complete their practical assignments where they put into practice everything they have learnt over the past several months.
