61 practitioners working with young children with disabilities in Jordan, Georgia and Romania have worked with us to explore how they might incorporate music into their activities. Recently they shared some enthusiastic feedback about its impact for themselves and the 5,989 children they care for.
I feel rich!! I learned so much in this course!! Thank you!!…Your constructive guidance has helped me a lot.
Romania Participant
A. was excited and happy, so she played quickly. I did the same thing, which made her more comfortable and responsive to me, as if I was telling her through the music, “I am with you and I understand you.”
Jordanian Participant
What I learned from Tako and Jenny is that music therapy is completely different from teaching music, and the real therapy is following the child, not teaching them to play an instrument,… it was more important to understand his resources, to lead him in ideas and to establish musical contact. I am lucky to have met you… Thank you for everything…. for your warm attitude…. For professionalism…. for humanity…. thank you thank you
Georgia Participant
The programme comprises eight monthly tutorials to which participants respond with written assignments. A two-day intensive study training delivered in-person brings the theoretical teaching to life before participants put their learning into practice during a eight-week supervised Practical Assignment. All the participants’ achievements are documented and moderated, leaving them equipped with new skills and knowledge which they can use confidently to continue offering music sessions to the children in their care.
It’s a detailed and thorough training and we are indebted to all those who have played a vital role in sharing their expertise and providing compassionate support to participants as they progress through it, many of whom continue to do so this year: Samah Alaiwat (Jordan), Hisham Alhadrab (Jordan), Rula Barghouthi (Jordan), Liz Coombes (Jordan), Eliso Gvasalia (Georgia), Tako Jordania (Georgia), Jenny Laahs (Georgia), Monika Manases (Romania), Larisa Neculai (Romania), Aliona Oganovi (Georgia), Clare Reynolds (Jordan), Eleonora Rosca (Romania), Tala Tkhoury (Jordan) and Fabienne van Eck (Jordan), and the generous support of Asociatia Sound Art e-Motion (Romania), Musicians Without Borders (Jordan), Parents Bridge (Georgia), The Casey Trust and individual supporters of Music as Therapy International.
